Paperless debate!?! While I support the fundraiser to keep the team as one of the leaders in the state, lugging giant tubs of paper around the state was character building during my years on the team in the late 90's. Also it just doesn't have the same emphasis when you roll into that Friday night, Saturday morning match with just a laptop. When someone came in with a hand truck full of tubs and started speed reading through half it, you knew it was on.

Participating in Debate at Central gave me a vast amount of experience in a myriad of fields, including academics, argumentative skills, and political thought. This experience has been invaluable in many aspects of my life, both during and after high school. Debate is an amazing experience for all students, and I hope the Debate program at Central continues to flourish in the years to come.

About Central Debate Tech Fundraiser
UPDATE: EXCEEDED GOAL! THANK YOU SO MUCH, LA CROSSE AND DEBATE COMMUNITIES!
As of Monday, April 8th, we are thrilled to announce that we have exceeded our initial goal of $4,400! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we have raised $4,500 and are feeling overwhelmed with gratitude.
Originally, we set the goal at $4000 (with an added 10% to cover the much-needed overhead at the La Crosse Public Education Fund) mostly because it would feel embarrassing to set a goal of $5K or $6K and only raise $1,000! But we underestimated outpouring of your support! We are certainly feeling the love!
With $4,500 raised, we're well on the way to equipping our existing debate team with new PC devices that will allow them to continue debating. We have 8 returning debaters, and with an estimated $400 per device for a sturdy refurbished laptop, we should be able to get 10 or 12 devices now! But we're also getting ready for a big recruiting push, and we'd love to be able to equip 4 novice teams to be able to compete at the same time--and to achieve that goal of 16 devices, and to create a small reserve for device repair, we're going to continue fundraising.
So: Full disclosure, we are raising our goal from $4,400 to
$6,400 for now! Thank you for believing in our cause and helping us
empower the next generation of debaters. Together, we are making a significant
impact!
WE ARE CENTRAL DEBATE
- Central debaters won both first AND second speakers in varsity policy debate at the Wisconsin State Debate Tournament hosted by the WDCA!
- Varsity teams finished in both semifinals and quarterfinals at state!
- Champions of the Challenge at West Bend in varsity policy!
- Champions of the Hilltopper Classic at Marquette University High School in novice policy!
WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING
- In addition to monetary contributions, we invite supporters to consider donating their old or gently used laptops to the Central High School debate team. Your pre-loved devices can make a tremendous difference in empowering our students with the tools they need to excel in debate. - Do you have a connection or positive experiences with a computer shop in or near La Crosse? Central Debate is looking to buy refurbished laptops and establish a relationship for laptop repair. If you have an establishment you can recommend, please reach out to us at CentralDebate101@gmail.com! Your recommendation could significantly reduce the financial burden on our fundraising efforts while ensuring that our students have access to reliable technology. By partnering with local businesses, we not only strengthen ties within our community but also demonstrate the collective commitment to nurturing educational opportunities for our youth.
